Mutton Busting

This event is a crowd favorite! Sheep are loaded in the bucking chutes just like the bucking horses and bulls. The “Little Buckaroos” are loaded on their sheep and when they’re ready to ride, the chute is opened and away they go! The children will be timed on how long they are able to stay on their sheep. The rider with the longest time will be awarded a buckle.

Participant Requirements:

MUST be 4-7 years of age as of June 1st, 2018

MUST be under 65 pounds
$25.00 Entry Fee

A release signed by a parent or legal guardian(s) All Mutton Busters are required to wear a helmet with a face mask. No bicycle helmets will be allowed. A helmet with a face mask will be provided by the Meridian Lions Rodeo.

Please note: All Mutton Busters are required to wear long pants and closed toed shoes.

Youth Steer Riding

This event is great for the 8-13 year old rodeo fans who would like to participate. Steer riding follows the same format as Mutton Busting. Instead of sheep, these riders will use rough stock.

Participant Requirements
MUST be between 8-13 years old as of Jan 1st, 2018.
$25.00 Entry Fee

A Release signed by a parent or legal guardian(s).Helmets, rope, and gloves are at the option of the parent/legal guardian but are strongly encouraged. Spurs are optional.

Please note: All Steer Riders must furnish their own riding gear, i.e. steer/bull rope, vest, glove, rosin, and helmet etc.The Meridian Lions Rodeo only provides a helmet with a face mask for Mutton Busters. The stock contractor does not provide any gear.
